On 11th October 2022, three SI Bristol Members (Denise, Laurence and Marion) participated in the Year 11 mock interviews at Oasis Academy John Williams.
160 students were interviewed one-on-one by 30 interviewers with the remit to encourage and instil confidence in the young people. Interviewers, who were volunteers from various local companies and organisations, each talked individually with 5 or 6 students for 10 to 15 minutes. The students were smartly dressed in their school uniforms and while most walked into the room looking apprehensive, they walked out with more confidence and a smile. As each interview ended, the interviewer completed a comprehensive Evaluation Form that covered many aspects of the student’s performance, such as appearance, clarity of the communication, or self-confidence. This document forms part of the student’s portfolio, is discussed at the forthcoming parents evening and is intended to support and encourage students in their ongoing development. Both interviewers and students found the experience a well worthwhile activity.
