The Big Knit is a partnership campaign between AgeUK and Innocent Drinks where supporters Knit little hats to go on top of smoothie bottles. Each one of these not only keeps an innocent smoothie head warm it raises 25p for AgeUK
The money raised through the Big Knit will help AgeUK provide practical and emotional support for older people. Once your hats are knitted you can drop them off at your local AgeUK or Age UK shop once they are open again or post them to: The Big Knit, Age UK, Fruit Towers, 342 Ladbroke Grove, London W10 5BU
Closing date 31 October 2021
Using 4mm needles and blue and white DK cast on 31 stitches in white
Row 1 k1, *p1, k1 repeat from *to end of row
Row 2, p1, * k1, p1, repeat from *to end of row
Change to blue and beginning with a Knit row work 12 rows in st st
Next row k 2 tog to last stitch (16 sts)
Next row purl
Next row k2tog to end (8sts)
C ut the yarn leaving approx 10 cms length. Thread this through a sewing needle and bring through stitches and pull together to tighten
Making up
use a sewing needle to join side seams
make a Pom Pom in blue and sew securely to top of hat.
Using 4mm needles and blue and white DK cast on 31 stitches in blue.
Knit two rows (garter stitch)
Change to white and beginning with a knit row continue in st st as follows:
2 rows white, 2 rows blue, 2 rows white, 2 rows blue, 2 rows white, 2 rows blue,
Continue in blue
Next row k 2 tog to last stitch (16 sts)
next row purl
Next row k2tog to end (8sts)
Cut the yarn leaving approx 10 cms length. Thread this through a sewing needle and bring through stitches and pull together to tighten
Making up
use a sewing needle to join side seams
make a Pom Pom in blue and sew securely to top of hat
