President Gillian welcomed members to the October Business meeting. She was pleased to report that £100 had been collected for Save the Children,at The International Day of Peace service at St. Tudno’s Church.
Members had brought items to fill backpacks for the ‘Mary’s Meals’ project in Malawi. The backpacks will now be packed and sent to Glasgow for distribution to Malawi. Members were also asked to observe the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11th, and to think especially of Malala and her fight for education. It is also World Food Day on October 16th and members were asked to contribute food items to be given to Conwy Foodshare and the Salvation Army.
Poppies have been knitted to support the work of the British Legion and have been distributed for sale at local shops.
Members going to the SIGBI Conference at Gateshead 2013 are invited to wear something red to take part in an event on Performance Square. This event will raise awareness of how women and girls suffer the effects of Endometriosis, mostly in silence. Endometriosis is as common as diabetes in women and effects menstruating women and girls worldwide. Untreated it can lead to infertility, chronic bowel and bladder problems, loss of earnings and quality of life in general. Diagnosis can take between 3 and 11 years. A resolution to Conference to promote the early diagnosis is also anticipated
Arrangements were put in place for the Fashion Show by Clare’s of Llandudno at the Imperial Hotel, on October 24th at 7.30pm. Tickets costing £6 are available at Clare’s.
The club was delighted to be contacted by their new friendship link in Kathmandu.
The next meeting will be a speaker meeting on October 17th, when Beverley Bradley will be speaking about Tŷ Gobaith which is one of President Gillian’s nominated charities.
