Welcome back after the summer holidays President Gillian welcomed members back after the summer break and hoped everyone was looking forward to starting the Autumn with renewed energies. Thanks were expressed to Elaine Bullock who raised £60, in aid of Birthing in the Gambia, by holding a bottle stall at St. George’s Church Centenary Fair. Members had brought items to fill backpacks to send to the ‘Mary’s Meals’ project in Malawi. More goods are needed for children aged 4-10 years old. Each child will receive a big blue mug from the charity from which they will eat their ‘meal’. The meal they have is similar to porridge and  members were urged to observe World Porridge Day on October 10th in support of the project. 93p of every £1 raised goes towards supporting the children, enabling them to have a wholesome meal and an education, a

Members from neighbouring Clubs joined us for our Friendship Evening at St. David’s Hall, Penrhyn Bay on 25th July. After a lovely buffet supper, prepared by the Social  Committee, we were entertained by Deryl from Four Seasons Florist shop in Colwyn Bay, who gave us a seasonal flower demonstration.

On July 20th, Llandudno was one of the venues chosen for the regional Bagathon. Members from across the region of Cheshire, North Wales and Wirral donated their pre-loved bags and scarves to be sold to raise money for the BIG Project. BIG stands for Birthing in Gambia which is a SIGBI project in partnership with MCAI, maternal and childhealth advocacy international. Here we are busy selling bags and scarves – by the end of the day we had raised £545, a significant sum towards our target.  And here are some more phoros – what a busy day it was!!

President Gillian welcomed everyone to the meeting and began by wishing Enfys Lloyd, Vera Bromley and Gwyn Owen a speedy recovery. She outlined some events which are to take place during the month of July: a strawberry tea, a cheese and wine evening and the ‘Bagathon’ which will be held outside Gregory’s Jewellers on July 20th. President Gillian welcomed Gavin and Ffiona Craigen to give a talk about their work in Uganda which they called ‘Grains of Mustard seed’. It was fascinating to learn about all they had done to enable children to be educated in a suitable environment catering for their needs. A video was shown of children entering a play park which had been created for them. Year 6 pupils at Ysgol San Sior welcome us to their school to show us their progress with the Bee Project. In 2012, Soroptimist International of Llandudno and District linked with Ysgol San Sior, Llandudno by presenting them with a ‘Bee project’ pack. On Thursday, June 13th, members of the club were invited to hold their meeting at the school in order to learn about all the work the children had undertaken to safeguard bees and other ECO projects. Members enjoyed a presentation created by the children, and were amazed at how much the children had achieved in their enthusiasm to protect the ECO environment. The children are aiming to achieve rhese targets:     Elaine. our Programme Action officer, has worked hard to involve local schools with the Bee Project.          There followed a tour of the school environs to see

May meeting   President Gillian welcomed everyone to the May meeting and reminded members of some of the forthcoming events. There will be a coffee morning in aid of local charities in St. John’s Church Llandudno on Tuesday June 4th, from 10 o’clock until 12, all are welcome. In July members are invited to attend a strawberry tea and there will also be a cheese and wine evening at Adlington House for charities supported by the club.   President Gillian then introduced the guest speaker Mr John Roberts from ‘Save the Children’. He gave an interesting illustrated talk about the work of this worthwhile organization. Save the Children was established in 1919 by Eglantyne Jebb who was concerned at the suffering of children as a result of World War 1 and the Russian Revolution. The organization now helps children in over 120 different countries and
