On Thursday 18th April 2024, we held our Annual General Meeting at the Imperial Hotel, Llandudno. This saw the change of insignia from Sandra Snow to Sandra Bainbridge and Eirwen Kenrick. We would like to thank Sandra for a great year, of socialising, fundraising and also her time. We look forward to seeing what this year brings.
On Saturday 9th March 2024, a group of us braved the blustery and cold conditions to walk along Llandudno Promenade to promote awareness of International Women’s Day 2024. We were joined by Frank Bradfield, a Llandudno Town Council member, the Llandudno Mayor and Mayoress and Tristan Owen, President of Llandudno Rotary.
On Tuesday 5th March 2024, a few of our Soroptimists attended Storiel in Bangor to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Soroptimist International Bangor During the afternoon, they opened up a time capsule, and will be adding some new items, which will then be closed again until their 100th anniversary. The time capsule was made at Bangor University many years ago.
Annual Charter Lunch : March 2024 On Sunday 3rd March 2024, the Llandudno and District Soroptimists met for their Annual Charter Lunch. It was a lovely afternoon, where we decided to opt for a less formal gathering, with a hot and cold buffet lunch instead of a formal 3 course dinner. Thanks to the staff at the Imperial Hotel, Llandudno for making it such a great occasion. We welcomed guests from SI Rhyl & District, SI Nantwich, SI Anglesey, SI Bebington, SI Chester, SI Bangor, SI Heswall, SI South Caernarfonshire and guests. We were proud to receive a talk from Janet Murfin, Regional President.
The Women’s Refuge – Christmas meeting Last night, Thursday 14 December 2023, the Llandudno and District Soroptimists met at Trinity Church Hall for their Christmas meeting. The Women’s Refuge were also invited along, where we shared stories, listened to festive songs and enjoyed some mince pies and mulled wine. There was a collection of Christmas presents for those currently under the care of the Refuge, which were presented to the representatives from the Refuge.
Llandudno and District Soroptimists attended the recent Regional Meeting and lunch held at the Imperial Hotel, Llandudno on Saturday 9th September. The Regional Meeting was well attended, with 13 members of Llandudno and District in attendance. Delegates were treated to an excellent speaker, Rebecca Morgan-Brennan who gave and interesting talk about her hair loss and wig supplying business in Chester and North Wales and their work with the Little Princess Trust. Llandudno and District also set up a jewellery stall in support of Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline. Delegates were able to purchase new and used donated jewellery in support of this worthy cause. This further supported our fundraising for this charity which has so far this year taken place at both the Bank Holiday weekends. On Thursday 27th July 2023, a group of Llandudno And District Soroptimists had the opportunity to visit the RNLI station in Llandudno. A fascinating place to visit, and see both the in shore and off shore boats in situ. Particularly fascinating was inside of the boat. Following a collection by the Soroptimists, we presented a cheque for £130 to the station.
On Thursday 22nd June 2023, the Llandudno and District Soroptimists met for their summer BBQ at Colwyn Bay Cricket Club. A total of £406 was raised on the evening, to be split between Conwy Food Bank and Conwy Clothing Bank. Thanks to the Ukulele Band for providing the wonderful entertainment and Just a Bite Catering for the delicious food.
Recently, some of our Llandudno and District Soroptimist members visited the Soroptimist Memorial at the Arboretum. It was a lovely day out, with beautiful weather and they were joined by Regional President Susan Heywood.
It’s wonderful to see the blossom tree that the Llandudno and District Soroptimists planted in 2021 in full bloom. What a colourful addition to the skyline up in Happy Valley, Llandudno. We will be keeping our fingers crossed for Haulfre Gardens and Happy Valley who are a finalist in Britain in Bloom 2023!
