We were delighted that our visitors enjoyed the evening, It was fun and memorable for everyone. We were entertained by members from CBUG (Colwyn Bay Ukulele Group), who perform to raise money for local charities. During the evening, we also raised funds for our President’s charities. The Band played and sang, and we joined in with the singing and dancing!

World Food Day and Anti-Slavery Day

World Food Day and Anti-Slavery Day

October sees many UN Days and significant dates which Soroptimists like to mark each year in a special way. 3rd October is Club Friendship Day, so we sent greetings to our Friendship Link clubs and we enjoyed our friendship with other members in the Club by gathering for a very nice meal at La Dolce Vita restaurant in Rhos-on Sea. 16th October is World Food Day, and to mark this we decided to have a Frugal Lunch – vegetable soup, bread, apples and water. The “frugal raffle” (all the prizes were basic items – no luxuries!) raised £100, which will go to Mary’s Meals.                 17th October is International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which underpins all our Soroptimist work. 18th October is Anti-Slavery Day in the UK. Llandudno Soroptimists had a ‘back to school’ experience at a recent meeting. Club member Elaine Bullock, who is the Soroptimist Bee Project Coordinator with local schools, brought in props usually taken to schools, so that members had an insight into what goes on at the visits. Activities included a quiz and word search, tasting different kinds of honey, and making a candle from a sheet of beeswax. One member modelled a bee-keeper’s outfit and the evening was informative and also great fun.

Members from other clubs in the Region joined us for an  afternoon of fun and friendship, enjoying Barbara’s garden in the sunshine, for a “Mad Hatter’s Tea Party“. Funds were raised for President Stephanie’s charities and there was a fine selection of exotic headgear created specially for the occasion. Former members Myfanwy and Doris had responsibility for choosing the winning hat. They awarded the prize to Rhian, for her Alice in Wonderland themed hat. Here is Rhian in her winning hat:

This year Janet has the honour of being the High Sheriff of Clwyd. The Garden Party was held as a fundraiser to support the Regional sponsorship of the prize for the Dance Champions of the World competition at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod this month.
