We were really pleased that President Sue Edgar accompanied by Susie Forbes were able to join us on 10th April for our AGM chaired by Angela Howe followed by a buffet supper.
Sue congratulated Teresa Cambell for the excellent project report reflecting on what the club had achieved over the last year. Sue spoke about the meetings with Federation President Ruth Healey who encouraged clubs to have a day of reflection/strategic planning.
Sue’s theme for her year is ‘It’s never too late’ encouraging clubs and members to do new and different things. During her time as Regional President, she has found it interesting visiting clubs. It is important to encourage everyone to find their niche, to encourage new members to get involved and be active. There is always support and a strong team to support members who take up positions.
She said that working with other clubs is valuable, as is networking at regional meetings and conferences. She suggested joining the Silent March in Canterbury and going to Orange cafes run by other clubs.
Sue has enjoyed her role; the diversity of the clubs is interesting and variety of projects. The poster from Edinburgh conference is excellent highlighting these projects and is a good talking point. Soroptimists have a strong story to tell and spread the word.
President Sue then presented to Lesley Rich a Long Service Certificate for her 30 years as a member and congratulated her. The second award of the evening was made to Jane Barnes, who is the Communication officer.
She received the Molly Oldham Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the organisation and development of the Medway and Maidstone club.
