Medway and Maidstone Soroptimists chose to support the ‘Give in Lent’ appeal. They asked members to bring their donations to the AGM being held on 10 April.
The ‘Give in Lent’ appeal was launched on 5 March 2025 by Medway Foodbank. It provided a list of suggested food items for the 40 days of Lent.
One in seven people in the UK are facing hunger. Medway Foodbank says, ‘We will not stop until everyone has enough money for the essentials, and the distribution of emergency food can end for good.’
Two club members offered to do the food shopping for those members who would prefer to donate money instead. The sum of £130 was donated by members. Two trolley loads of shopping were purchased consisting of tins and packets of Instant Mash, Ham/Corned Beef, Pies, Fruit, Rice Pudding, Fruit Juice, Squash, Hot Chocolate, Potatoes, Tomatoes, Instant Soup/Cup-a-Soup, Sugar, Ketchup and Brown Sauce, Instant Coffee, Evaporated Milk, Dried Skimmed Milk Powder. In addition, there were nappies, deodorant, shampoo, period products and washing up liquid. Other members brought along additional food items.
Angela Howe kindly took all the food donations and delivered them to the Medway Food Bank, where they were well received.
