Members from Midland Arden Region celebrated International Women’s Day 2021 at their Regional Meeting. This year’s International Women’s Day theme, Choose To Challenge, calls for women worldwide to challenge the status quo and stand up for an equitable world. It was 100 years ago when Clara Zetkin established International Women’s Day on March 8th (voted in 1910 by the women’s movement). During the 1975 International Year of Women, the U.N. celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD), and in 1977 designated March 8th as the official day for Women’s Rights and International Peace.
News from Friends of Sick Children in Malawi! President Elaine is delighted to pass on this message of thanks from Gordon Cowie Chair of Trustees for our recent donation of £695:- “Your donation has been assigned to the paediatric oncology unit, which continues to make positive strides. This is despite the limitations of operating in a resource-constrained healthcare environment and an unsophisticated patient environment. There are many issues that we in the UK would simply take for granted when children with cancer are being treated. However, these are much more problematic in Malawi. For example, completing courses of treatment such as chemotherapy and essential follow-up with patients can prove difficult, if not impossible. This is due partly to the understanding of parents and guardians and also the financial and other difficulties in travelling to and from the hospital when required. We thank you again for
