Always a busy month with the White river Duck Race, organised by the Lions who share the profit with us. We will donate them to Dig Deep a ‘water’ charity working in Kenya. The weekend was spent at Lanlivery Rally giving away over 1000 books. At the cheese and wine evening and quiz in Libby & Alan’s cowshed, President Sandra welcomed Loraine Hoar as a linked member. We took part for the 22nd year in the Marine Conservation Society beach clean & survey, this year it was at Charlestown beach 15 members attended the September Region meeting in Taunton to hear speakers on ‘Safer Families for Children’ and the threat of the Asian Hornet with Wendy & Kay joining with the other 3 Presidents for a photo that became a SIGBI photo of the month. Four Club members, Wendy, Mary, Liz & Barbara attended the 3 day International Convention in Malaysia in July with over 1300 Soroptimists from 75 different countries. They were able to meet up with members of our Friendship Link Club Barossa Valley in Australia Daphne of Tiverton joined with Wendy Liz & Barbara for a 2 week tour of Malaysia beginning in Penang. Emily attended our club meeting. Mary, Jean Ann and Wendy took part in the Truro Race for Life. Julie & Pat organised a Treasure Hunt around Charlestown with supper afterwards at Porthpean Golf Club. Poppy Bees and Melia Buscombe of Pondhu School received the Carol Jennings Awards for service to fellow pupils, presented by President Sandra Our Founder President Marjorie Hutchison sadly passed away this month at 94, she had led a very full life and been a very active inspirational Soroptimist both here in Cornwall and her beloved Yorkshire.

A busy June for club members, The Summer Fayre in Lanjeth raised £1,200 for Look Good Feel Better, Some famous faces popped in to judge the cake decorating competition. The club meeting was held in the plush Council Offices Chamber and Alan & Heather Angilley of Physionet told us of the Charity’s work in providing  physiotherapy and mobility equipment for the disabled overseas. 14 club members joined with Soroptimists from all over the South West Region for the AGM & Conference at The Berry Head Hotel in Brixham. Liz Kirk and member Pam Bee treated us to some healing therapies

Maggie Parks CEO of the Women’s Centre visited the club to talk about the work of  the Centre especially in relation to the new Therapy Unit where various healing therapies are used to help reduce the impact of trauma on the body, mind and spirt of women who have suffered domestic abuse. Di Walker was welcomed as a new member and Alice Moore received a £300 Bursary cheque to help with her studies in Textiles and Design at Falmouth University

The club AGM was held with reports from the officers about the years activities Brenda’s last job was to hand over cheques to Kernow Young Carers £5736.00 and The Invictus Trust. Brenda handed over the chain of office to Sandra Hayward. President Sandra’s first task was to welcome Jackey Stagg and Rowena Castillo- Nicholls as new members. Presidents Evening was a buffet supper and horse racing night at Carlyon Bay Golf Club. Members were asked to think Ascot and dressed in their finest especially hats. Visiting from SI Plymouth Region President Elect Margaret Parkinson won the best hat prize.

Lois Wilde of St Petroc’s came to our club meeting to talk about the work of the homeless charity and receive donations of warm winter clothes. Later in the month Libby hosted a “posh puds” evening to raise funds. The event was a tribute to club member Shirley Mathesion who was closely involved with the Charity for many years. Sylvia handed over a cheque to The Olive Branch Foundation and Graham Walker presented a cheque to President Brenda for Kernow Young Carers.   Judith and friends from Santander organised a barn Dance in Charleston proceeds to the local Women’s Refuges.
