Soroptimists around the world have elected to highlight our pledge to stop violence against women every month on the 25th using a global taskforce #WomenAgainstViolence .
#ElmbridgeSoroptimists have started!: we’ve held our first Orange Cafe! Five members of our club met on Monday 25th September at Cafe Enzo in #Weybridge. We made a splash of orange with our clothes, badges, flowers and tablecloths. We told the cafe staff about Soroptimists locally and about the UN campaign to end violence against women and girls. We left some good/bad relationship cards for them to give to customers. It’s a small start, but hopefully this is something that will build month by month.
Halloween Week beckons – we will meet on Wednesday 25th October at @SquiresGardenCentre, Hersham, 10am-11.30am. Join us for a warming drink and chat, hear what it’s all about. This month we will be talking about women and girls safety locally with a view to discussing the issues and enabling change, in partnership other Surrey Soroptimist clubs #SIWoking, #SIEpsom, #SISurreyHills. We’d love to hear what local women of all ages feel about local safety in Surrey, when do you feel spooked? What concerns you as you travel by train, walk around town, visit pubs and clubs? We have a shining example of what can be done by community action, look at our @SalisburySoroptimists Women’s Safety Initiative Project as we build on links the county police services.
November ‘Cafe’ Crawl on Saturday 25th a day which marks the start of this years UN #16days Campaign to Stop Gender-Based Violence and for us global soroptimist clubs specifically against women and girls worldwide. We will be walking the Thames Towpath from Weybridge (where an #Orangetheworld flag will be flown with information for the #16 days at Monument Green) to Walton on Thames stopping for ‘orange’ coffee along the way. Watch out for us or join us for a km to chat and help raise the awareness. Save the Date! Follow our Facebook Page for more information. Wear a flash of orange over the #16days to show your support. Pop up a poster in your workplace. Join the many businesses and schools supporting UNWomen in highlighting the inequalities, discrimination, abuse and violence around the world. Know more?
