SI Cannock Christmas Activities

Cannock Soroptimists, as in previous years, have been doing what they can to provide a better Christmas for some of those who may be in some sort of need this year.

They provide Christmas gifts for the women and children who will be living in a refuge run by the Pathway Project for women victims of domestic violence over the festive period.  They sent along toys, games, clothing, books, toiletries, jewellery – the recipients of the gifts are always touched that there are people thinking of them at this time.

President Carole Holdcroft coordinated the club’s preparation, cooking and serving of a Christmas Dinner for those who use the Soup Kitchen in Mill Street Cannock. They fund a large part of this meal too and again served over 50 meals, complete with all of the Christmas trimmings – this service to members of the community is always appreciated.

In lieu of sending cards to each other at Christmas, Soroptimists make donations to their International President’s appeal, held to mark United Nations Day on December 10th. The appeal this year is Educate to Lead – Napal and will help victims of the earthquake in Napal. This Appeal addresses human rights issues that follow a disaster. The earthquakes in Nepal were devastating – physically, geographically, psychologically, financially, and economically. The resulting poverty has left women and girls more vulnerable. Human traffickers prey on rural women and deceive them into losing their freedom and human rights. Many have lost their livelihoods and need to find a way to care for themselves and their families – the Soroptimist project aims to alleviate this problem. This year SI of Cannock donated £65.00 to the appeal.

SI Cannock’s own Christmas Celebration was held early in December at the Barns when they were entertained by The Folkies, a small local group who provide good, fun music with plenty of audience participation. Members enjoyed the evening and wish everyone a happy Christmas and a healthy, peaceful 2017.Christmas Celeb 2016 (Large)
