 March 2018 – Crafty afternoons resumed making items including wash bags for BAWSO sewn with the donated machine

Saturday 23rd September 2017 10am – 3pm – SIWS Regional Meeting and AGM – Machynys Golf Club Llanelli at which, SI Cardiff received 2nd prize at the Wales South Regional Programme Action Awards for their work with NuLife.

Thursday 27th July 2017 – Cadwyn Tenant Day Vale College Dumballs Road 2pm – 5pm.  Presentation of Soroptimist prize by President Sandra at 5.30pm followed by AGM 6pm – 7pm.  Several members attended the afternoon session which was a fun occasion and President Sandra presented the prizes to the worthy winners. Luke Bridle : is currently at Nu-life on a paid 6 month placement  funded by St Giles;  Gareth Job : has successfully completed a foundation course in Art and Design and will start his Degree in September; Rosemary Kiputa : – Rosemary (pictured above) currently runs the Cadwyn Craft group and has attended several courses. She has also volunteered for the food co-op.; Dan Lock : Dan (pictured above) gained employment after Volunteering at Cadwyn’s Digital Fridays helping Cadwyn tenants to use laptops, tablets and phones.

Wednesday 18th January 2017 – President Ann and club secretary Joan Williams met Welsh Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths during her visit to NuLife developed by Cadwyn Housing Association. Members of SI Cardiff & District help with upcycling and renovating household furniture donated by the public which then provide affordable furniture to those on low income.  President Ann was able to appraise Ms Griffiths of SI Cardiff’s long association with Cadwyn starting with the club’s gift of three houses to them.

 October 2016 – President Ann (above left) and Joan Williams at Cadwyn upcycling items of furniture for Cadwyn clients to use/purchase.  This NuLife project is new ( from 12th October) and ongoing.  Also from 19th October, craft afternoons will be held each Wednesday.  Members including Jen Hancock and Sandra Ajax have been helping out.  A sewing machine has been donated by SI Cardiff & District to make wash bags for BAWSO which members of SI Cardiff & District fill and give for clients at BAWSO

Friday 7th October 2016 – Congratulations to the ‘Men from Cadwyn’ who took part in the ‘Walk A Mile In Her Shoes’ campaign  to raise awareness of domestic violence against women.

Saturday 24th September 2016 – Immediate Past President Jane Percy (l) receives the Regional award for the EDUCATE Programme focus category in connection with our project ‘Realise your Potential’ undertaken with Cadwyn Housing Association. She received the award from the Federation’s Immediate Past President Jane Garvie.  Also picture is club Vice President Jen Hancock.

4th February 2016 – President Jane with AnnT presenting Rosemary, from CADWYN, with a sewing machine which is loaned to enable her to make sponge bags for BAWSO service users

SI Cardiff & District, in conjunction with Cadwyn Housing Association are embarking on a project ‘Sisters CanDo’.  More details to follow.  Photo below shows some members who will be taking part along with Alessa from Cadwyn (back row right)

 

Five members from SI Cardiff & District – President Jane, Ruth Abbott, Jen Hancock, Rita Gwyn Jones & Joan Williams – attended a Tenant Fun Day by Cadwyn Housing Association at Oasis Cardiff on Splott Road on September 25th

A spokesperson from Cadwyn said, “Apart from the entertainment and food we met many of the tenants.  We were able to celebrate with them the giving of tenant awards for various achievements – ‘Realise your Potentail’.  Four tenants achieved awards given in the name of Soroptimism awarded by President Jane.  These awards  recognised the donation of 3 houses SI Cardiff & District made to Cadwyn Housing Association in 1996 . Pictured with  her family  is Maria Williams who won one of the Soroptimist Awards for ‘realising her potential’ in Educational achievements.”
