80,000 Soroptimists Worldwide

There are nearly 80,000 Soroptimists worldwide, the majority of whom belong to their local Club, where they can make friends with like-minded women, have fun and work on projects that help improve the lives of women and girls locally, nationally and internationally.

Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI) also offers Associate Membership, for busy women who believe in what we do but do not have the time to get involved in Club activities.

Soroptimist International (SI) and SIGBI both have consultative status at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the United Nations (UN), which gives us a voice on important discussion papers.

Why join Soroptimist International – Chester?

Some of our members tell us why they joined SI Chester:
” I was looking for something that served the local community, but also had an international aspect. I had not heard about Soroptimists before seeing an advert in the paper and upon further research it seemed SI Chester would fit what I was looking for.”

“An added bonus has been that I am constantly learning about new subjects and issues I had little knowledge about. This makes me feel like I am keeping up with the world and means I can bring fresh conversations to other areas of my life.”

“Through becoming a member not only have I made friends with likeminded women, I have also been actively involved in some really exciting projects and fundraising ideas. Also, SI Chester is connected with so many other groups locally that through my involvement, I now really feel part of the wider-Chester community.”

“I saw joining SI Chester as an opportunity to inform and educate myself about the challenges facing women and girls in today’s world. It has enabled me to focus my energy on improving their life chances whether in small practical ways or by campaigning for systemic change.”
