Crosby’s Soroptimists have supported Crosby Hall Educational Trust (CHET) since it was founded in 1991.
CHET is an independent residential centre. It caters for children of primary school age, some from inner-city schools. It offers a taste of country life through a range of outdoor and indoor activities that are not available in a classroom.
Instructors encourage children to challenge themselves on an outdoor confidence course; learn water safety skills while rafting on the mere; enjoy bushcraft and orienteering in the woods ; and see nature first hand.
CHET’s focus is on educational and social development, such as leadership skills, self-belief and teamwork. New activities are introduced regularly. The latest is a purpose-built tower with climbing and abseiling walls. Children in wheelchairs can access one section, so this a very inclusive activity.
