January- March 2020

  • Our speaker in January was Debbie Shaffer, founder of FTWW- Fair Treatment for the Women of Wales. FTWW is a patient-led, voluntary organisation for women and girls living and receiving healthcare in Wales. They help women and girls who have endometriosis, have had recurrent miscarriages, and those going through the menopause.

  • At our meeting in February, we collated all the backpacks which members had prepared for Mary’s Meals. There were a total of 50 backpacks which will be collected and taken overseas. https://www.marysmeals.org.uk/
  • The February Regional meeting was held at The Imperial Hotel in Llandudno. 100 members from the region attended including 24 from SI Llandudno. We raised £97 from a blue and yellow tombola and the funds went towards our Presidents’ three chosen Soroptimist charities. The speaker was Dame Vera Baird, Victims Commissioner.
  • SI Llandudno held a ‘Curry night’ at The Clock House Indian Restaurant in Colwyn Bay on February 20th. Our member Caroline discovered that if we had a party of 30 or more then this restaurant owner would give half the price of the food back for charity. We had a very enjoyable evening with a delicious buffet and including the proceeds of a raffle, a total of £388 was raised for Empowering girls in Nepal. Thanks to Caroline, Christine who organised the booking, and thanks to all who supported us.
  • Our annual Charter Lunch was held at the Imperial Hotel on March 1st. We welcomed members and guests from 11 clubs in our Region as well as our two Regional Presidents, the town Mayor and Mayoress and two couples from our Friendship Link club, SI Pendleside.
  • To celebrate International Women’s Day, club members and friends including Regional President Pam, the town Mayor and members of SI Rhyl  met on the promenade for a walk to raise awareness.
