October- December 2019

  • Madhu held a frugal lunch at her home to remember World Food Day and raise money for Mary’s Meals.
  • Presidents Pat and Stephanie attended the SIGBI Federation Conference in Bournemouth.
  • At our November business meeting we celebrated World Toilet Day with an extra raffle and eating cup cakes themed for the occasion.
  • As usual, several members attended the Remembrance Day memorial service at Holy Trinity Church then walked with the procession and laid a wreath on behalf of the club at the Cenothaph.
  • Our club’s tombola stall at the November Regional Meeting raised £67 for the Diamond Education Grant charity.
  • Our November speaker was Angela Narey, who is the daughter of our member Joanne. Angela is a Barrister with the Welsh Crown Prosecution Service and told us about how she became a Barrister and about her work.
  • Jane hosted a coffee and mince pie morning at her home. Special guest was Wil Aaron, Welsh TV producer and author who told us the history of Martha Hughes-Cannon. Martha was born in Llandudno and emigrated to the United States where she practiced as a doctor She was an Utah women’s rights advocate and suffragist, and Utah State Senator. She is considered a heroine in Utah.
  • Our first Christmas social event was an afternoon tea hosted at a private home where they have amazing Christmas decorations and food! We also had a Christmas party at the Orme View Restaurant in Llandrillo College which was excellent.
  • The December meeting was quite momentous as we enrolled THREE new members!!!
We have supported Ali Ussery in her work with modern-day slavery for a while and we are delighted that she has decided to join us.
The other two young ladies who joined are Kate Blahut and Zoraida (Ida for short) Camara. Kate is known to Sandy as they work together at Citizens Advice. Zoraida is Kate’s friend and runs a beauty salon. Well done Sandy!
