Members were impressed with Paulines story of her diagnosis and treatment in 2010 and her determination to set up her charity, both to fundraise for state of the art equipment for women in Cornwall and to educate girls in schools in their final year on all aspects of Breast Cancer. The education will be undertaken by women who received treatment themselves within the last 5 years. Pauline shared with us her successes and  ideas for future fundraising. www.bosombuddiesuk.com

We have received some lovely photos and a letter from Sne thanking us for her card and presents. She had a party with a cake for her 11th brthday and received a cell phone from her friends. She likes athletics but not the shot put. She loves nature, trees, flowers and grass. She especially likes zebras because that is the meaning of her surname (Dube). Her favourite singers are Lady Antebellum, Beyonce, Shakira, Rihanna and the Parlotones. To eat she likes macaroni, spaghetti and hotdogs!  Check out the website www.Makaphutu.org.za  

Members supported the Eve Appeal who fund research into the 5 gynaecological cancers by wearing funny footwear to the monthly meeting and making a donation. £91.30p was raised.   The annual September White river Duckrace was won by Daphne’s duck, Joan’s duck was 3rd. £197 was raised for WaterAid, thanks to the Lions. Barbara and Carole ran a tombola each Wednesday at Charlestown Village Hall. Club members donated the items for the stall.  Including donations £520 was raised and will be presented to Daphne Skinnard for the Phoenix Stroke Appeal. The profit from the Barn Dance to be held in Charlestown on Nov 10th will be divided between St Austell & Truro Womens Refuges. 3 members were to attend the Coffee Morning on 5th October in Truro hosted by the Team at the Truro Refuge to thank their supporters. The Club raised awareness of the 10th Anniversary of The International Day of Peace on Saturday 22nd September at the Eden Cafe, Members of the public were invited to write a message of Peace on a white paper Peace Dove and hang it on the tree. The Mayor John Keast and his wife wrote their messages, St Mewan Community Choir conducted by Alison Harvey sang beautifully. Donations were collected throughout the day for the International Red Cross and £66.50 was raised. There was also a photographic display of the clubs activities and we were able to talk to townspeople about what Soroptimists are and what we do.

Not the biggest aspidestra in the world but Auctinoneer Daphne coaxed a generous bid for it at the Harvest Auction at the Welcome Inn Par. A total of £370 was raised for the Roll out the Barrel appeal.  The barrel for transporting water elimnates the need for women in developing countries to carry heavy water containers on their heads. Our efforts ensured 13 barrels can be bought. Proceeds for WaterAid
