On Saturday 21st April at The Waves restaurant at the Britannia Inn, President Libby presented a cheque of £4000 to a delighted Jackie Eastwood of the Cornwall Ambulance Trust. Special events are being held this year following their move from Roche to Newquay as they celebrate 25 years. Several fundraising events had been held throughout the year, the highlight was a Fete and Dog Show at Tregrehan in July on a very wet and windy Sunday.
President Libby with President Elect Carole Gardner The club reviewed another very successful year . The main Charity was the Cornwall Air Ambulance. The club also gave financial support to The SIGBI Diamond Jubilee Education Fund and the International Presidents Appeal. There was a coastal walk for WaterAid, a donation to BookAid and Plan International (Because I am a girl). A Barn Dance was held to raise funds for the local Womens Refuges. Donations were made to St Blaise PCC and the Friedrich Ataxia Society . Overseas, £400 was sent to buy a cow for a widow in Tanzania and we have begun to support the education of Sineguyu an Aids Orphan in South Africa. Also in the year the club raised awareness of The Purple Teardrop Campaign and the horrors of Human Trafficking with a display in the Market House St Austell and collecting over 600 signatures on a petition to
The presentation was made before the Club’s Annual General Meeting. Each young woman received a cheque for £300 from the Elizabeth Millard Bursary Fund to help with the expenses of their studies. The money was raised by Past Presidents of the Club at an Open House fundraising day held at Kay’s home in January.
Celebrating Womens Achievements on International Womens Day, members gathered on Trevarthian Rd footbridge. Mayor Sandra Heywood joined us. We celebrated the economic, political and social acheivements of women. With a theme this year of Peace and Develpoment we remembered our sisters throughout the world living in conflict . The Women for Women Campaign calls for equal and better representation of women to build peace and say no to inequaliy and injustice.

The speaker at our Supper Evening, held on February 16th, was DI David Dale who works on the serious and organised crime unit within Devon & Cornwall Constabluary. His role involves investigating serious and organised crime, including Human Trafficking – a subject that we’ve been supporting with the Purple Teardrop Campaign.
