Overview of Activities 21/22

In the absence of a club President for the 21/22 year below is a message from Lydia Cardew, Programme Action Officer.

Our Soroptimist year started with our annual donation of Easter eggs to the Nelson Trust Women’s Centre, with whom we been involved since 2015.

This was followed, throughout the year, by deliveries of clothing and underwear and culminating in our annual 25 Gift bags at Christmas, for the vulnerable ladies who use their services.

As long term supporters of the Prospect Hospice we were delighted to be asked to be a Champion on their crowd funding event in April and raised £658 in 36 hours.  We believe that supporting local services is important because it also helps the women who generally take on these caring roles in families.

Our friends and other ladies groups have also helped us help Swindon Women’s Aid throughout the year.  We have taken several car loads of clothing, toys and household items for sale in their charity shop, providing essential funds to keep their services running.

Currently we have just planted over 100 trees in a grove at Rivermead, Swindon for the Soroptimist International centenary and are working with Swindon Borough Council on their Safer Streets project.  We plan to provide 4000 of our Relationship bookmarks for use in local schools.

Looking forward we will start to collect books for Drove Primary School and add to the 1,000 or more we have provided to build their library since 2015 and plan our celebrations for International Women’s Day in March.

So come and join our dedicated band of women and make a difference to your local community!
