SI Winchester and Number 63 Gin

At the recent Number 63 AGM on 25 January 202, there were some very positive reports and initiatives.
One of these was greeted with much support as the launch of ‘Number 63 Gin’ was announced. This is now available to order through the Number 63 website at a cost of £30 per bottle plus £5 p&p. You’ll find details in the News and Offers page.

Of course Soroptimists do not do things by halves and this product is no exception. The design was carefully thought through, as well as the botanicals content for the spirit. Gorilla Spirits Co Ltd was asked to develop a suitable mix. The gin lies on the citrus side and orange is one of the botanicals used in its make-up. This is reflected in the label design, which was produced by Barbara Jeremiah of SI Winchester.

She says, ‘It seemed right to me to base the 63 Gin label design on the 63 Plaque which I was commissioned to make for the front of the building 21 years ago, in that the design incorporates the Oranges of Generosity fruiting on the Tree of Life surrounded by laurel leaves; emphasising the spirit of Soroptimism. The leaves and the shape of the plaque are a reference from the Grade 2 Listed Italianate window designed by William Benson of which 63 is justifiably proud.’

The single word of ‘Soroptimists’ on the front label makes a statement of ownership and is known worldwide. On the underside, ‘Something for Ourselves’ pays tribute to those far-seeing women in 1948 who purchased the building for the rest of us in perpetuity.

The reverse label shape is also based on the trademark plaque. This provides not only practical details of how and where to find us but a warm welcome as well. The rest of the information including a bar code and legal requirement names Gorilla Spirits Co Ltd as the distillers. The name indicates that they support the Gorilla charity and donate to the Gorilla Organisation.
