Our club has turned 95 – and we have celebrated in style!
A chilly morning in beautiful Duthie Park saw members and friends handing out pots of spring bulbs in order to mark International Women’s Day. Of course this was followed by coffee and chat in the warmth of the Winter Gardens.
Later we attended a wonderful Civic Reception in the elegant surroundings of the Town House, where a fantastic spread was hosted by our Lord and Lady Provost, David and Hazel Cameron. It was so nice to see our own Margaret Smith’s portrait from when she was Lord Provost displayed so prominently.
A wonderful Diva tribute show at the Tivoli theatre was the evening’s experience, with stars such as Annie Lennox, Blondie, Adele and Madonna portrayed on stage in all their fabulousness! Impossible not to sing and dance along with the music.
The following day members and more friends and Soroptimist sisters were welcomed by President Ruth and treated to a magnificent lunch at Woodbank House. It was a wonderful afternoon of conversation and joy in celebrating the club’s achievements over 95 years. SIGBI Director of Membership Dishi presented long service certificates to Anne McAlister for 20 years service, and to Audrey Harvey for 35 years service.
Our longest serving member, Marion Donald, cut the celebration cake which was made by our own talented Marjory Smart. A talk by Chris Wardle from the National Trust on his “Gardening Heroines” kept everyone captivated and ended what was an excellent day. Over the 2 days we were delighted to be joined by Dishi Atwood from SIGBI, members of our friendship link club SI Bromsgrove and Redditch, fellow SI Scotland North club members from SI Perth, SI Dundee, SI Easter Ross and SI Inverness & Nairn, SI Scotland South member Maureen, as well as our Associate member Jean and past president Christine.
Much chat, reminiscing and laughter took place over the two days and we now look forward to continuing to support women and girls locally, nationally and internationally as we have done for the last 95 years.
