The Meeting opened with President Pam inviting Pearl Roberts (SI Rhyl) to light the Peace candle.
The theme for this year’s Peace Day – Climate Action for Peace was then linked in a short presentation to the Region project to re-cycle plastic’
This was followed by the Region AGM
The following members were elected to Region roles for the coming year:
- Region President (shared role) – Pam CH and Louise Parry
- Region Secretary – Pat Kerfoot
- Region Treasurer – Diane Bennett
- Region Membership Officer – Penny Clarke
- Region Benevolent Officer – Iris Bateman
- Region Ambassador for the Federation Project – Susan Heywood
- Co-opted to the Region Finance Committee – Wendy Thompson.
- Region Communications Team – Sue Challoner, Helen Owen, Doreen Jones Caroline Marsh
After the AGM Region Federation Councillor Hilary went through the Resolutions to be debated at Conference and encouraged members to look carefully at them.
Immediately before lunch, the Region delegation to the International Convention between them gave an account of the programme, – speakers, activities and the fun side of Convention
First timer to an SI Convention Caroline Marsh summed it up in her ‘takeaways’ from Kuala Lumpa
- The passion and commitment of Soroptimists
- Better understanding of the UN and the SDG’s and the 5Ps
- Personal courage of women eg Christina Lamb
- Friendship and Fun
Following lunch, the Region Council meeting took place, and this included presentations from Region Safeguarding Officer Barbara Myers and an introduction to Stage 3 of the SIGBI Growth Plan from Region Development Officer Kath Lewis.
Here the Region unanimously supported Hilary Laidler’s Application for Federation Vice President
It was a day full of information and interest with plenty to take back to Clubs
