I am honoured to be President of Soroptimist International, Crosby.
I joined in July 2019 having heard about Soroptimism from fellow Trustees of Age Concern Crosby. One of the things which attracted me to the organisation was the concept of practical service and supporting local voluntary organisations. It is impressive to see the wide range of activity which the Club is involved with.
For example, our Club is in partnership with Lancashire Wildlife Trust for the ‘Mesolithic and Modern Life’ project at Lunt Meadows. I am the project’s independent Chair and look forward to our members supporting initiatives which will surely emerge when the Learning Centre opens on the site.
I am also heartened that we will be able to give practical support to Sefton Women’s and Children’s Aid, with whom our Club has a long-standing relationship. We’ll be putting together ‘back-up bags’ containing items for children, many of whom arrive at the Refuge in such a hurry that they have little with them.
While continuing with ongoing projects we shouldn’t lose sight of other aspects of being a Crosby Soroptimist – not least fun and friendship. We enjoy each other’s company, working co-operatively and sharing ideas. Last year, for example, we held some imaginative and successful fundraising events. These raised significant amounts of money for a variety of good causes. Already interesting ideas are emerging for this year!
It is good to be a member of such a healthy and vibrant club and I am looking forward to the year ahead.
