Soroptimists and participants at Open Day

On October 22nd the club held the Dementia Information Open Day with organisations sharing information with members of the public and with each other. There was a very diverse group of organisations present, all there to help dementia sufferers and their families and carers.   The Organisations present were The Alzheimer’s Soc., Age UK South Lakeland, South Lakeland CAB, Dignity in Dementia, The Wordworth Trust, local solicitors Gedye’s, the local mental health team + South Lakeland Carers. Books and resource packs including reminiscence books were available and provided by the library. The day was rounded off with a short demonstration of Singing for the Brain and visitors and representatives of organisations joined in and enjoyed themselves while learning what Singing for the Brain is like. Together SI Grange over Sands and the Alzheimer’s Society run weekly Singing for the Brain sessions in Allithwaite.

Club members worked very hard organising and hosting the day and providing refreshments.

For further information from the organisations present and Singing  which is now Singing foir Memory see below

Dementia affects 1 in 6 people over 80 and some much younger people so as a community we need to be tuned into problems people face. The Grange  Soroptimists  are Dementia Friends  and received training from the Alzheimer’s Society.
