Our work helping victims of Domestic Violence

The Club supports Barrow Women’s Centre with donations of clothes, toiletries, sanitary items, equipment and bedding and 2 members assist in running the clothes room.  The Women’s Centre provides support to women who have suffered domestic violence and assists any women  including those involved with the criminal justice system and teenagers needing support.

During the pandemic members have been involved with food preparation for families struggling with  poverty and provision of toiletries etc for women fleeing domestic abuse which dramatically increased during the pandemic. The baking  of desserts and traybakes  while the children were off  school between April and September was a big undertaking with  a total of over 4,000 portions baked and delivered to the Women’s Centre for distribution  along with main courses supplied by the Centre.

The Club supports  Springfield the  women’s refuge in Kendal  with regular fundraising to provide bedding and other household items.

Club members lobby for improved services for victims of domestic abuse and were active when the Domestic Abuse Bill was going through Parliament lobbying re inclusion of non fatal strangulation to be included in the Bill.  We also  do awareness raising such as the White ribbon campaign
