SI Lichfield & District Membership Officer Louie Clegg is a passionate advocate for Soroptimism and is always on the lookout for opportunities to promote our Club to potential new members. She’s absolutely certain that membership is the heart of our club here at SI Lichfield & District…but why is that? Over to Louie…

When you start to ask members the question why they joined their local Soroptimist club many different reasons will start to pop up:

But without the members none of it is possible and here at SI Lichfield we certainly recognise and value that – Membership is the heart of our club.

For any service/voluntary organisation to flourish they need a constant stream of new members to breathe life into the club using their skills and background knowledge and that was my mission just over 3 years ago when I took over as Membership Officer.

But who is going to join an organisation that they don’t know anything about ? We may be 100 years old next year and have done some incredible work in that time but I promise if you walk into a room of 10 or more people and mention Soroptimism most of them will ask ‘is that something to do with your feet’! Or ‘I’ve heard of that but not have a clue how or why’?

Here at SI Lichfield we want to involve every member of the club to make sure she feels valued for her contribution. We understand that some can give more than others whether that be time or knowledge. But by giving every member the opportunity to express her beliefs, bring new ideas and to be an active member it brings a vibrancy that reverberates throughout the Club.

We pride ourselves on ‘getting stuff done’ and for that you need people. During lock down we formed a new group: Communications & Marketing with the aim to keep all members informed on what was happening within Club, Region & SIGBI in the format that was most comfortable with them.

Now that is in place we can start ‘marketing’ SI Lichfield and Soroptimists on social media and through our own website to promote the club and ‘spread the word’ about all the great projects we get involved in so that we can Stand up for Women! Locally, Regionally and Internationally.
