President Anne invites you to join her at the National Memorial Arboretum Every year the new Presidents from the 3 Midland Regions lay wreaths at the Soroptimist plot. I will be with Judith Carder – Midland Chase and Jo Holdway – Midland East This year, of course, we have the new sculpture, please come along and join us if you are interested. The day starts with the formal service at the MOD memorial at 10.45am After that ceremony, we walk across to the Soroptimist plot, to lay 2 wreaths for a photoshoot. One from the Federation, one from the Midland clubs. We read the Peace pledge and do photos. It would be great to see some of you there if you can make it. It will be a very busy day though and you will need to book your car parking via their website at

SI Worcester and District will be hosting a tree-planting ceremony in Fort Royal Park, Worcester to celebrate 100 years of Soroptimism,   on 23rd September 2021 at 2 pm. The event will be attended by the Mayor of Worcester and members of SI Worcester & District, friends, and relatives. Dame Vera Baird QC    – Victims Commissioner for England and Wales At our March meeting, Dame Vera gave feedback on our recent work on DA court observations.  Our reports have now all been submitted, and the debrief by Police is due on 22nd June 2020. Soroptimists completed 200 questionnaires, representing 225 manhours worked.   Our region mustered 40 volunteers and carried out 70 observations.  Other regions are now becoming involved in the project. Dame Vera then told us about developments in the Northumbria region.  As Victims Commissioner, her aim is to put the victim centre stage in what is an adversarial criminal justice system.  At present, the focus is on prosecuting or defending the defendant. Victims of violent crime are often deeply traumatised by their role as a witness, but neglected once the trial is over.   Dame Vera sees her role as empowering victims to get
