“TOILET TWINNING” CASINO NIGHT RAISES OVER £840
Members and friends enjoyed a fabulous evening of fun on St Patrick’s evening at member Nina Szulc’s house when she organised a “Casino Evening” and raised over £840 for the Fylde Soroptimists’ “80 for 80” toilet twinning project.
Nina’s brother, Mike Szulc, and his friend, Mark Piva, who together run The Winning Hand, set up a Casino roulette wheel and Blackjack table and Nina’s guests played with “mock” chips to try and win the biggest amount. As well as prizes for the guests with the most “chips” at the end of the evening, there was also a huge raffle with super prizes donated by various businesses and friends. These included a meal for 2 at Gusto, £60 voucher from In The Style online clothing, a chocolate bouquet from Sweet Lisa’s and a selection of gifts and wine. “Thor” the toilet was on display with details of how toilet twinning helps change lives.
The ticket to the “sold out” event included a glass of prosecco, a hot supper with dessert and a starter “chip” to kick off the evening’s gaming. The evening was soon underway, with everybody taking part in the action at the tables. Guests could also purchase extra “chips” to continue playing. Everything for the event was donated, from the gaming equipment to the raffle prizes and desserts, so all monies raised went directly into the “80 for 80” funds.
Fylde Soroptimists began their campaign to twin 80 toilets for their 80th anniversary at the start of their club year last May, in a partnership with toilettwinning.org. Thanks to Nina’s efforts, they have now surpassed their target and are now looking at twinning over 90 toilets throughout the Fylde. They have also achieved their goal to attain the category of “Toilet-Twinned Town” for Lytham St Annes and have achieved the first “Toilet-Twinned School” with community partner AKS and their Young Soroptimist group.
Fylde Soroptimists would like to give huge thanks to all who helped make the evening such a great success, especially those who donated food and raffle prizes, but most of all to Nina for organising such a brilliant fundraiser.
