World Environment Day 2025

On 5th June 2025, we recognise the importance of protecting the environment and encourage collective action to make our world a safer place for nature to grow and prosper.

World Environment Day, the theme of which is “ending plastic pollution,” encourages us all to think about how we use and dispose of plastic-containing products. Keep Britain Tidy explains why plastic is a problem and what we can do to actively reduce our reliance.

Litter picks can help keep plastic out of our rivers, lakes, and seas. Keeping just one piece of plastic out of the sea could save the lives of many creatures. Don’t underestimate how important it is to keep our streets and beaches clean. By being part of regular litter picks, we can all make a difference to our towns and cities.

World Environment Day is linked to a number of Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to environmental protection and sustainability. Key SDGs linked to these days include Goal 13: Climate Action, Goal 14: Life Below Water, and Goal 15: Life on Land.

By taking small steps to make the world a better place, we can all create change for the better. Never underestimate what impact our actions may have on the health and wellbeing of others, including our wildlife.

And so, as we dispose of our rubbish, let’s not forget the fish.
The sea anemones. The sea turtles. The whales.
The dolphins. The seals. The Seahorses. The otters. The seabirds.
They can all be hurt by our failure to dispose of our litter safely.
Take it home with you. Give our sea creatures a chance.

And let’s not forget the trees. The butterflies. The bees.
The bats. The wasps. Moths and beetles. The rodents.
For they are all natural pollinators. They all lend a hand to nature.
Let’s play our part. Plant seeds. Give nature a chance.
Create a sense of renewed hope.
