I have been a Soroptimist for 21 years, first joining SI Richmond and Dales then transferring in 2018 to SI Scarborough, Malton and District. I have held office at both Club and Regional level over the years. In Richmond and Dales I was Membership Officer, Secretary and President. In Scarborough I have also been Secretary and held office as President, both individually and jointly, for several years.

I was honoured to be elected as the Yorkshire Regional President from 2014 to 2015, prior to which I was Regional Membership Officer for 3 years. More recently I took the role of the Yorkshire Benevolent Fund Trustee, and also the Federation Consultative Councillor (FCC) for Yorkshire for 4 years. During these 21 years I have enjoyed meeting women from across the world, sharing the same Mission, which is to make a difference to the lives of women and girls, locally, nationally and internationally. Being a Soroptimist has enabled me to learn from a vast number of committed women, by hearing interesting speakers at meetings, attending webinars, and other meetings. My personal development has benefited from the opportunities to lead in our organisation, and to work with other women to achieve our aims. I have been lucky to have travelled across the globe in pursuit of Soroptimism, have made many friends and had a great deal of fun.

I am committed to furthering equality for women, and raising awareness of women’s issues, such as domestic abuse, female genital mutilation, cervical cancer, and the poverty and lack of education suffered by millions of women around the world. Please join us to help make a difference! There is still a long way to go!

I have been involved with Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland since the early 1990’s when I was a member of another club within the Yorkshire Region – SI Garforth Elmet holding the offices of Secretary and then President in 2000. I had to resign my membership in 2005 due to a home relocation to an area which did not have a convenient club to join.

Since returning to the Yorkshire coast in 2020 I was delighted to join SI Scarborough which now of course has been renamed SI Scarborough, Malton and District because we cover rather a large geographical area. We have members in the Malton area, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington.

I am proud to be a member of an international women’s service organisation and it is uplifting to meet like minded women who are all striving to improve the lives of women and girls at local, regional, national and international levels.

I have been secretary of SI Scarborough, Malton and District for the past three years and in April 2024 became joint president. I have without a doubt enjoyed the work we have undertaken as a club and it pleases me we are not focused on fund raising but giving our service when and where it is needed in our communities.

I first joined Soroptimist International Great Britain & Ireland (SIGBI) in April 2024. I had attended several events held by SI Scarborough, Malton & District club to make sure this amazing global voluntary organisation was right for me. I found the work SIGBI does and the many associated clubs and volunteers to be exactly what I was looking for. The rights of women and girls are being eroded daily – Soroptimist International is focused on ensuring the advancement of education, health, equality & diversity and essentially the advancement of human rights to help improve primarily the status of women and girls. They do this whilst working to reduce the impact of poverty. Having held many leadership positions I am now ready to take on new challenges and develop my leadership skills further in a new and varied role. Joining SIGBI I have no doubt will help me achieve this. It is an absolute privilege to be part of an organisation that works collaboratively with the United Nations and other global organisations to make the world a safer and happier place for women and girls to achieve their full potential. As a member of Scarborough, Malton & District club I have been welcomed with open arms and the skills I have appreciated.
