Iffat told the story of her life since coming to Sheffield. She inaugurated Urdu programmes on local BBC and as a teacher won the right for Asian  girls to have further education at Sheffield schools. She has been awarded an MBE and also two awards from local radio for her inspirational programmes. She described the stages it took to reach these achievements and showed us her awards. Supporting  MIN (Mums in Nead) Congratulations to our three Share Our Skills (SOS) girls from King Edwards School (KES) They successfully planned, publicised and organised a 'bun sale' at the school raising £138.00 Mums in Need.  The items sold included their delicious mini lollies. Thanks to all who gave items to sell, bought or otherwise supported the event.

This enening, Jackie had a special sales table; decorated to mark the Coronation. After business, a slide presentation was given by Suzanne Morton - update on Winn Gardens. Apart from the Food Bank where Suzanne has a number of helpers, she does the rest mainly by herself. Some details of the estate. 347 households to care for. 17 cultures/ languages. Food Bank. Has a safe house. Has a number of asylum seekers Slow cooker classes (big success). Recycling centre with toys and clothes – now used by 600 people. Drop in coffee with crafts. (founded by Suzanne) The Food Bank has had an exponential rise in demand due to - Furlough Redundancy Changes to the benefit system Lockdown kids at home Rent arrears Breakdown in relationships Domestic violence Mental health issues

Supporting Water Aid Who would have expected that the history of drinking water could be both absorbing and amusing. Jennifer Stephenson, a local doctor, has researched her subject thoroughly, written and self published books to raise money for Water Aid. Her talk included several examples of Sheffield water fountains and history of the reservoirs. We were so pleased to able buy her Sheffield  based book - she raised £200 for Water Aid.

Our Charter Lunch at Tapton was well attended. Pesident Daphne opened the proceedings with a welcome to  all guests (see below) and lit friendship candles,  Linda said grace prior to the efficent serving of an excellent meal. Sally acted as admirable toast master while everyone was inpired by Dame Julie Denny's dymanic speech. Thanks and congratulation to those who organised and catered for such a memorable event. Laura Riley  (CEO of Mums in Need - MINS one of our President's charities) described the history of MINS from the touching personal circumstances that led to her recognition of a major problem area without support through setting up MINS, raising funding,  acquiring dedicated board members staff and volunteers to it's current situation - recognised by public bodies needing advice on this field. The charity has a waiting list of clients so is grateful to all sources of support. A most inspirational person.
