Soroptimist International - Southern England

Soroptimist International of Southern England is part of a worldwide organisation of women, which is linked to the United Nations.

If you are already a member of this region, please follow this link for recent news updates, otherwise Welcome!

Our region of Southern England has 9 clubs and stretches from Poole Purbeck and District club in the South West to Epsom and District in the North East.  In between we have Bournemouth, Salisbury, Winchester and DistrictSurrey Hills (based around Godalming), Woking and DistrictWeybridge and District and Solent East (covering Gosport and Fareham, but also Southampton, Portsmouth and Chichester areas).  Links are to their respective club pages on this website.

There were previously more clubs in our area, and we are seeking to ‘fill the gaps’ again in the coming years.  You’ll find that each club has its own character, and meets on different days, so if you can’t make it to the nearest one then another might meet on a more convenient night.  We don’t yet have a virtual club, but that is also a possibility for the future, where club members meet online and do their programme action in person in the local area.

Our region’s theme for the coming year is “Communication for Action”.  We have a number of key vacancies in the Regional Management Team, which means that team members are spread rather thin and covering as much of the regional administration as they can.  Communication is key.

Our Federation, of Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI – ‘sig-bee’), is structured and run as described in the mother website, but if you would like a step-by-step guide through these pages then please follow this link to a summary (TBA).  A lot of information is hosted on “The Hub”, but you’ll need to register with a membership number and password for that.

As with all organisations, there is a certain amount of shorthand and jargon, so we have put together a list of acronyms and jargon-busters here (TBA).

Our Federation and International charities, are all geared towards our goals and help certain aspects of our work.  The 3 SIGBI charities, and the International Foundation, are:

Our work, which we call Programme Action, is based on service to meet our Vision: Soroptimist International is committed to a world where women and girls together achieve their individual and collective potential, realise aspirations and have an equal voice in creating strong, peaceful communities worldwide.
