About Our Club
Women serving the St Albans Community Since 1957
The Soroptimist International St Albans and District Club was chartered on 27 April 1957. The Club Year runs from May to April – please see our Programme of events to see what our plans are for the year: www.sigbi.org/st-albans/club-programme/ We usually meet twice a month, on the 2nd and 4th Mondays. Our meetings include hosting speakers relevant to the causes we support, attending to Club business, and working on our Programme of Action – the work we do to tackle issues including women’s education, human trafficking, the environment, health and violence against women and girls.
This year we will continue our support for charitable causes, international, and local – details of the main ones are given here:
Local Women’s Refuges:
- “St Albans and Hertsmere Women’s Refuge“, fundraising and assisting them in practical ways www.sigbi.org/st-albans/2016/sahwr/ The Refuge provides emergency accommodation, advice and help for women experiencing emotional, physical or sexual domestic abuse. There is also an Outreach Service which involves the Support team being able to go out and meet women to offer help and advice. Registered charity number 1069612.
- “Welwyn Hatfield Women’s Refuge” www.whwr.org.uk The services it offers are: a telephone Helpline for women needing help because they’re living with domestic violence or abuse; safe, temporary accommodation for women fleeing domestic violence or abuse, with or without children; support for children who have lived with domestic violence or abuse; information, support and advice for women in the Welwyn Hatfield district living with domestic violence or abuse. Registered charity number 1156186

It is certainly not all work and no play! We arrange social events to raise funds for the charities we support and outings and visits when we can enjoy each other’s company. As an international organisation we have links with clubs all over the world from Osaka in Japan to Warsaw in Poland.
