Friends from Brixham Soroptimists joined us at Rosegarth to listen to Clive Addison. We had invited him to improve our understanding of the Torquay Community Larder. We have supported the charity wholeheartedly but welcomed the chance of some more background detail. Clive was there for the six months it took to plan and prepare for the launch of the Torquay Community Larder. It was introduced to the public on 12th September 2016. It is based at the Salvation Army Citadel at 27 Market Street, Torquay. TQ1 3AF and is open on Mondays and Fridays from 10am -2pm. Emergency food provisions are offered to support the most vulnerable individuals and families in Torquay.   Actions speaks louder than words. We’ve had the discussions, we’ve finalised our programme and now we’re gearing up for action. Lately, our ladies have had their unfair share of problems, misfortune and sadness but as with all Soroptimists, we’re there for each other. Now we can focus on our chance to help others through this new year and that’s always heartening. We started off our first project at our meeting on Tuesday 6th Feb. We had decided to collect books for Africa and sure enough ladies made a great mound of books straightaway. We will keep going and hope that others may be able to donate some to help the cause. We’d like new and used books for children and young people that are educational but also fun. If you are able to help please email me – linda.churchward1616@gmail.com In time, the books will be packaged in

Members from Torquay & District SI gave up a few hours of their time on Friday 1st December to help stop hunger by joining the biggest Food Collection in Tesco Metro Torquay.  They worked alongside the Paignton & Torquay Community Larders to help collect the items essential to provide emergency food parcels for people in need. The Food Collection is a partnership between Tesco and the Trussell Trust.  Tesco organised with the Community Larder to encourage customers to buy an extra item or two of food when they shop and donate it on their way out of the store.  All the food donated is used locally by the Paignton and Torquay Community Larders to support people who are struggling to put food on the table. Members volunteered to greet shoppers on their way into the Torquay Metro store in Fleet Walk and hand out a

http://torquaycommunitylarder.org.uk/   Torquay Community Larder is open between 10am and 2pm on Mondays and Fridays at the Salvation Army Hall.  They are open to provide emergency food provision to people experiencing food poverty. The Torquay Community Larder exists because poverty exists in our community.  Their long term aim is to provide support solutions that encourage and enable those that use their service to not only engage with them but to also engage with other support agencies in the community.  Their hope is  to build relationships with their guests and as they journey with them, they will start to get to the root cause of their poverty and eventually see them become self-sufficient and able to support themselves once again. Recently members paid a visit to the larder with a view to volunteering, and after a tour of the facilities returned a week later to enjoy
