Friendship is Important Too

You are welcome to visit a club you are thinking of joining, and will always find a welcome there if you do join.

Soroptimism is a network of friendship as well as activism. Every year the region’s officers  meet with new members from across the region. Yesterday we talked about what engages and motivates us as Soroptimists. Everyone spoke of how the friendships we form endure, support us, make our work enjoyable, enable us to visit Soroptimist clubs wherever we are in the world.

Clubs have a variety of social events to which they invite their Soroptimist friends across the region. Clubs also have friendships with clubs across the world.

Here President Sandra tells us about the recent visit of Soroptimist friends from Oulu in Iceland:

Our Friendship Link from SI Oulu arrived in  April. After settling them in their hotel a Fish and Chip meal at Bizzie Lizzies, with a welcome by Yorkshire President Jane Glendinning and 5 of our members, made an enjoyable evening.
On Friday morning we took our 6 sisters to view our celebration plaque marking SI Skipton in Craven’s Freedom of the District, in the Council Offices. We then travelled to Haworth, for the Parsonage, Church, shops, and lunch in Haworth. Our visitors watch Emmerdale on TV and wanted to see Esholt, where we drank in the Woolpack, much to their delight and more souvenirs were purchased. Unfortunately a fire alarm left us unable to go in to Salts Mill so we journeyed over Baildon Moor and surrounding countryside which they loved.
Saturday evening we served a two course meal in our decorated clubrooms, provided by our members and enjoyed a lovely evening of chatter and presentation of gifts from our visitors. On Sunday morning they left for Manchester, more shopping and their flight home.
We have received an invitation to visit them in Oulu, Finland.
