On two Sundays in August members set up and manned stalls at the Rosemount Community Market Day at the Victoria Park in the city and at the Friends of the Duthie Park Open Day to raise awareness of, and promote Soroptimism as well as the work of our club. Friends of Duthie Park work closely with Aberdeen City Council and everything the group undertakes is for the betterment of the park, the city’s number one green space. It was the group’s fourteenth open day and the club’s first on the site. Both days were busy with a great deal of interest shown by a number of women looking to take up volunteering roles. Members distributed information leaflets, and there were many conversations about our activities including our forthcoming fundraising Quiz night for the Team Jak Foundation, the charity we have supported this year.
The use of ORANGE at our stalls to promote the UN’s campaign to ‘ORANGE THE WORLD’ and STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN, was explained to many visitors on both days.
