SI Chester at Storyhouse Women 2019

Storyhouse Women Weekend is a celebration of what it means to be a women or a girl in the world today, and a chance to explore and discuss topics that affect anyone who identifies as a woman or a girl. A safe space to discuss and tackle these issues together. There was a line-up of incredible women who shared their stories and experiences with Chester, and events to inspire and enable everyone to create change.

On Friday, 26th April, Club Member, Jane, gave a short presentation on the Purple Community Fund (PCF) to 70 children from three local High Schools. Jane described how the schools could assist us by collecting ring pulls from drinks cans and Anne modelled some of the fabulous handbags made by the women in the Philippines. On Saturday Wendy gave another talk on the PCF as part of a Session entitled ‘Ten Minute Tales’. This was very well received and following the session several women came down to visit the PCF stand in the Market Place. Some offered to collect ring pulls and others were keen to buy bags and jewellery.

Finally, on Sunday, Anne gave a short presentation on the Purple Teardrop Campaign as part of another ‘Ten Minute Tales’ session. Many of the audience had questions, showing a keen interest in Modern Day Slavery, and we hope that we will have attracted some women to join us at our next monthly meeting (Mollington Banastre Hotel, second Monday of each month, 7.30pm)
