Club members swam in the Kendal Swimarathon and raised £275 for ShelterBox
The Victoria Hall rocked to the music of the 50’s and 60’s when the club held a disco on 11th Feb. A great time was had by over 100 people and £1,515 raised for club charities which include Partners in Education Swaziland ( PIES) and International Justice Mission. PIES is a charity supporting a school in Swaziland giving children an education and better nutrition and a better start in life. International Justice Mission works internationally to fight Trafficking and Slavery.
Members enjoyed a lovely Christmas Party and delicious meal at the Hampsfield House Hotel. The entertainment included Christmas poems, a quiz and a Limerick writing competition!
Janice Carrick and club members knitted poppies which were in great demand again this year, with many sold at our event in October. £157.50 was raised for the Royal British Legion and the cheque handed over in Cartmel Priory by Janice Carrick to Judith Reay (Community Fund Raiser Royal British Legion for Cumbria and the Isle of Man).
Members sold cakes and preserves at the Christmas Fair in the Victoria Hall raising funds for Soroptimist Charities including International Justice Mission and Partners in Education Swaziland
Twelve members from Grange attended the SIGBI Conference in Malta, with the chance to socialise with other Soroptimists and enjoy warm weather, historical sites and beautiful scenery. Grange Club had been asked to present Singing for Memory as one of 4 club projects showcased at the conference and the film and presentation by Janice was well received . It was good to have the work of the whole club recognised.
Over 100 members and guests enjoyed an evening at the Netherwood Hotel with wine and canapes before an amusing and interesting talk by Val Armstrong from Radio Cumbria. Val recounted humorous stories from her broadcasting career and also shared her experience of breast cancer. £1,200 was raised on the evening for the charity Breast Cancer Care. Many thanks to those who attended and helped us raise this amazing amount for Val’s nominated charity. Guests had a chance to browse stalls making purchases and finding out about Soroptimism . Cath Holland a local midwife also attended with a stall outlining her work to eradicate FGM in Kenya.
Members and guests celebrated the Charter of SI Grange with a delicious lunch at the Netherwood Hotel. Club president Lesley Smyth cut the 62nd Charter cake!
Sue and Barry hosted an afternoon tea and open garden on a stunning August day!
