In Langdale valley Five members enjoyed a  round walk from Elterwater up the Langdale valley to Stickle Barn on 17th November. The weather was varied with glimpses of sun and a few small showers. The views and  autumn colours were magnificent and we spotted various fungi.  It was a great way to chat and enjoy exercise and friendship. The walk rounded off with refreshment at the Britannia Inn.

Soroptimists and staff at Women's Centre Following a public appeal by the Club items were collected for Barrow Women's Centre on Sunday 7 November. The public response was brilliant,  and nine full to bursting car loads of items including clothes, shoes, lamps, kettles and toiletries were delivered  to Barrow. The staff at the Centre were delighted with the items. Twelve members were involved in the sorting and transport of the items which was hard work but good fun! If you are interested in finding out more about our work or joining us please CONTACT US. We would be delighted to hear from you.

On Saturday 9th October Grange Soroptimists , with mayor Tricia Thomas planted a  tree  and placed a plaque near the library to mark  the Centenary of Soroptimist International.  A Paul's Crimson Hawthorn tree  was chosen primarily because hawthorns are excellent if not the best species for carbon capture. Secondly it will provide all year round interest from the deep pink blossom in May and the red haws and yellow leaves in Autumn/ wintertime. This was part of the Soroptimists involvement in tree planting to  fight climate change #PlantTrees. See the SIGBI Website for information about other Clubs tree planting and  SIGBI tree planting map  Planting Paul's Crimson hawthorn tree in Grange with Mayor Tricia Thomas

Penny Ward  spoke of the founding of Soroptimism and Violet Richardson's words " it's what you do that counts".  Members watched a slide show of photos taken  over  67 years depicting social events and the extensive projects undertaken.  Our guests included  mayor of Grange Tricia Thomas  and Regional President Elect Val Thomas. It was fun to wear hats for the occasion as these were just the thing for Club events  years ago! Club members and guests celebrating 100 years of Soroptimism
