Child Mortality in Malawi: Kenilworth & District SI’s bid for the next SIGBI Four Year Project

Did you know that ….

…infant, child and maternal mortality rates in Malawi are among the worst 20 in the world?

…this can be improved provision of more and better trained medical staff?

…staff trained in Malawi tend to stay there?

In partnership with Friends of Sick Children in Malawi (FOSCiM), the Malawian registered charity Friends of Sick Children (FOSC) and the Kamazu College of Nursing (KCN) in Blantyre, and the support of SI Blantyre, we aim to fund the training of 18 additional Malawian paediatric nurses at a cost of £5860 per nurse over two years. This will lead to:

  • Knowledge to improve child mortality.
  • Role models for trainee nurses.
  • Progression to leadership roles with enhanced career and earnings potential for the nurses.
