UN 16 Days of Activism 25th November – 10th December

Whilst we join other organisations around the world in this campaign, as Soroptimists, our emphasis is on violence against women and girls.

The campaign always starts on November 25th – The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and runs until 10th December – Human Rights Day.   The UN uses orange as its theme colour to denote optimism that things can and will improve.

In 2025 the theme is Preventing Online Violence.

If you need more information about the issues we’ve raised, please click here

Throughout the period there will be a display in Kenilworth Library, highlighting the issue of online violence and what can be done to prevent it.

Another initiative has been the production of drink coasters that have been distributed around participating pubs and cafes. These carry a strong message about the need to work towards the prevention of violence towards women and girls. We hope these will stay in circulation well beyond our 16 day focus.

Fresh Thoughts

The Fresh Thoughts booklet has been produced by SI Kenilworth and District following the project started by SI Poole and Purbeck. The booklet is designed to be used by professionals offering guidance and support to women dealing with the outcomes of having suffered violence from a spouse or partner. These women frequently need help to navigate their way to safe and secure futures and may contact many different services. The Fresh Thoughts booklet lays out clear pathways for them and is already being used by professionals in the field to explain and clarify the options that a woman in these circumstances might have.

The official launch of the Fresh Thoughts booklet was on 27th November in Kenilworth Centre and was led by Soroptimist President Sharon Maxted with invited guests from within the field of professionals who support women who have been the target of violence.

28.11.25 The Soroptimist Christmas Tree took its place with many others in St Nicholas Church and was decorated in orange and with decorations that reflect this year’s focus on Preventing Online Violence. This took place as part of the Christmas Lights Switch On in Kenilworth High Street.

28.11.25 Also as part of the Switch On there was a Tombola Stall in the High Street to raise funds to support our charities in the coming year.

4.12.25 There was a Christmas Dinner at Kenilworth Holiday Inn where we celebratedour Club for its energy, good heart and clear focus on Supporting Women and Girls.

5.12.25 Oranging The Park. On the weekend of the 5th – 8th of December the benches in Abbey Fields and the steps of the library were festooned with orange decorations and information relating to Soroptimism and its mission to Support Women and Girls.
