Welcome to Kenilworth and District Soroptimist International club.
We have just had a wonderful year in 2019/20 celebrating our 50th anniversary since the club was formed, and enjoying a varied programme of speakers, events, and projects. Thanks go to past-president Sandra for her hard work and organisation, and to all the members whose combined efforts keep our club vibrant and productive.
And now we are into 2020 and an entirely new and different situation. I’m delighted to be this year’s president but find that we need to make changes in response to these new circumstances. But Soroptimists are always flexible so I’m sure that we can respond with creativity and determination to continue to thrive as a club. To begin with we will be experimenting with the use of Zoom for meetings at all levels and exploring some new ideas for online activities.
However, some aspects do not change. My charity for the year will be Refuge with emphasis on supporting the local refuge in Leamington. And we will also support the SIGBI three year project “Empowering Girls in Nepal”. How we will achieve these aspirations will unfold over the next 12 months.
When I planned for this year I took a theme of “Expanding Horizons” which seems rather a different challenge just 12 months later. But I have no doubt that we shall rise to the challenge and, as always, have some fun along the way.
Best wishes to you all and stay safe
