A message from our Club in East London to all London Anglia Region Clubs Just wanted to let you know that tonight in Bethnal Green I helped pack some of the items you generously donated into 30 Christmas gift hampers for women in daytime support with Beyond The Streets. We also wrote Christmas cards. I’m taking the other half of the donations to Women On The Front Line in Forest Gate on Friday who are supporting a similar number. Thank you so much for your generosity which will be going directly to women and showing them they are cared about at Christmas.

UN Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women – 25th November -16 Days of Activism

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender based Violence takes place between 25 November and 10 December each year. The theme for 2021 is “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!” As the world retreated inside homes due to the lockdown measures introduced to curb the COVID-19 pandemic, reports showed an alarming increase in the already existing pandemic of violence against women across the world. This includes Domestic Abuse, Rape, Female Genital Mutilation, Trafficking, Child Brides, and much more, with Poverty at the root of some of these major issues. On our Club Facebook Pages we have been adding Posts during the build up and each day.  Go to: Soroptimist International of Ipswich to see more. Soroptimist International (SI) and SIGBI both have consultative status at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the United Nations (UN), which gives us a voice on important discussion

Soroptimist International of King’s Lynn – 45th Charter Celebrations

Soroptimist International of King’s Lynn – 45th Charter Celebrations

A great celebration for one of the Clubs in our Region. Soroptimist International of King’s Lynn is celebrating the 45th anniversary of the club’s Charter this month, marking the 45 years they have spent in the town. Determined that celebrations should go ahead in these challenging times, the club held a zoom celebration, drinking a toast to the club and the two members who have been members since the club’s inception – Dr Elizabeth Harrison and the inaugural President, Pat Robinson. The zoom celebration replaced the annual Charter Lunch. President Julie Williams hosted the meeting, with members reflecting on their lives as Soroptimists and the friendships they have made while working on projects that improve the lives of women and girls in the UK and further afield. Earlier this year, retired GP Dr Elizabeth Harrison was awarded Honorary Membership in recognition of her exceptional contribution
