[new_royalslider id=”31″] AKS YOUNG SOROPTIMISTS’ CLUB The newly formed AKS Young Soroptimists’ Club was chartered this week in a celebration held in the School Pavilion.  Fylde Soroptimist members were proud to host the event and Regional President, Maureen Howarth, and Regional Membership Officer, Karen Rainford, attended to present the Charter and the members’ badges and certificates.  A unique event was the presentation of a membership certificate to head boy, Sam Southern.  It is hoped that the boys at the School will support the girls’ Club as ambassadors for the White Ribbon Campaign to end violence against women. During the celebration, guests were invited to participate in a candle lighting ceremony for Peace and Friendship Worldwide.  The guests also enjoyed wonderful refreshments provided by AKS Hospitality. Fylde Soroptimists have been fully supported by the School in the formation of this new club and thanks were given

Walk for Women

25 November 2017 Despite the driving sleet and cold – plucky members from Blackpool, Blackburn, Garstang, Grange and Pendleside joined Preston Soroptimists on a walk through the town centre to mark the Day of the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The ladies were thrilled that members of Men Against Violence (Preston) joined the ‘throng’ too. It was pretty quiet in the town but the crowd couldn’t really be missed as they were carrying orange balloons, placards and a banner – not to mention the chanting of ‘Stop Violence Against Women!’ No one disagreed to ending the walk at a Costa Coffee in the dry, warm shopping centre! 25 November Members have been in Lancaster town centre, along with the Mayor and Mayoress, handing out stickers and talking to people in support of the White Ribbon Campaign which raises awareness of violence against women.  The Mayor’s commitment to join us was very much appreciated as he delayed his visit to hospital to do so.  He had been out pushing leaflets through letterboxes offering assistance to people who have been affected by by the recent local flooding when he injured his finger.
