SI Rossendale helps with Breast Cancer Survey

SI Rossendale helps with Breast Cancer Survey

in Tags

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. Early detection of breast cancer can be improved by regular self-examination of one’s breasts. Regular self-examination facilitates early detection of changes occurring within the breast, enabling early diagnosis and treatment. SI Rossendale members all completed this on line survey which aims to find out whether women know how to regularly examine their breasts. We also seek to find out whether women would like to be reminded to examine their breasts, and if so, which method would be preferred. Following on from the survey, we hope to work in collaboration with other stakeholders to implement or advertise the most preferred reminder method. Please complete this vital survey, and forward the link to other women you feel may be interested. You could be the start of saving another woman’s life. At our first meeting of 2014 we made lots of plans for an exciting schedule of speakers and charitable causes to support. Our Programme Action Committee (Enid, Mary, Mavis, Joan and Jean) is working on ways in which we can support Programme Action objectives at both a national and local level. Our Speaker programme will be developed from a list of suggestions from all the members and the Programme Action Committee. We’ll make the final decisions on 21st January, so keep an eye on the website for updates! We’re still hoping that we can agree a date with Jake Berry MP for him to visit us again to update us on his work in Parliament this year. The timetable for volunteers to staff a local facility for families was agreed. Our calendar of social meals was agreed and to top it all the club’s pre-Christmas drive to collect bras for

SI Rossendale Christmas Meal

SI Rossendale Christmas Meal

We had a lovely evening at Sykeside Country House Hotel celebrating Christmas last night. Good food and good company made the night a really lively event for club members. We had drama – a member received a phone call during the meal to tell her her daughter-in-law’s waters had broken (Good luck Mary hope all went well!) We had confusion – the list of who’d chosen to eat what had been left behind (well done Maureen!) but we multi-tasked admirably and by a process of elimination we think everybody got what they asked for (or if they didn’t they didn’t complain!) We had hilarity with some really bad Christmas cracker jokes – Why was Santa’s little helper depressed? Because he had low elf esteem !! We’d like to wish all members, our friends, family and colleagues a merry Christmas and all the best for 2014!

SI Rossendale joined forces with Rossendale Rotary to raise money for Tor View School by selling tickets for Third Person Singular by Alan Ayckbourn. The play, a wild comedy about behind the scenes decisions, is part of the Autumn season of the Rossendale Players. Proceeds from tickets sold for the 1 December performance and Christmas raffle prizes will be donated to Tor View School to help them buy accessible playground equipment. SI Rossendale President Maureen Griffin said “We are delighted to be able to work with our Rotary colleagues to raise funds for a local project which will make such a direct difference to the experiences of the children attending Tor View School”. //
