International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day 2026

The “Purpling the Park”  event has become a popular part of SI Kenilworth and District’s year and March 8th 2026 has been no different.

It was great to hear from two passers by that “LOTS of people” read the messages we put out around the park. The variety of voices and different points of view expressed in those posters make it an entertaining and thought provoking walk through the park but the strong message is the same – of course women have something to say and demand equal rights and justice – why would any person think otherwise!

A Helping of Friendship with a Dash of Poetry on the side

A wonderful afternoon of friendship, food, wine and poetry. What an inspired way to celebrate International Women’s Day. The poetry ranged from AA Milne to Christopher Marlowe with many wonderful stops along the way and it was a hugely enjoyable journey.
Thanks, as always, Julie.

Purpling the Park

To celebrate International Women’s Day SI Kenilworth and District decorated our wonderful park – Abbey Fields, with purple decorations.

What a lovely way to spend an afternoon celebrating women. Generous hospitality was provided by Julie, supported by the events team, and the entertainment was poetry.

The poetry comprised work written  by women, written about women or invested with loving memories of women and what a lovely selection it turned out to be.

This was an afternoon filled with warmth, nostalgia, insight and great good humour.

Order of Readings

Organised for you by SI Kenilworth and District.  Many thanks to Deborah Thomas and Doctor Rebecca Jacques.
