Mental Health Awareness? You must be joking!

On Friday 26th April, Soroptimist Lichfield and District Club held a ‘Mental Health Coffee Morning’ to promote mental health awareness at Spires Care Home with a very special guest; comedian and author of “The Power of Knowing You”, Sheila McMahon.

Sheila McMahon playing guitar and singingA local counsellor by day and comedian performing her one woman show at the Lichfield Garrick Theatre by night, Sheila raises awareness of mental health issues from personal experience through laughter.

Strong winds and gusting rain didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the Lichfield ladies as they shared their own experiences of mental health issues, listened to anecdotes, Club members attending our Mental Health Awareness Coffee Morning in April 2019songs and poems from Sheila who suggested coping strategies to deal with negative people and ways to help break free from limiting thoughts and negative patterns of behaviour.

A donation of knitted toys was also made to the Buddy Bag Foundation by Carrie Jahn of Barchester Healthcare.
