Pamper bags for healthcare and mortuary key workers

As part of its service work during the Covid-19 pandemic, Lichfield & District Club has been putting together pamper bags for healthcare and mortuary key workers in our area.

Through our Sewing Bee and in collaboration with other local SI Clubs, we had already been busy knitting bereavement hearts, and sewing uniform washing bags and other items, but it occurred to us that the health care workers might appreciate something a little more personal for themselves as a token of appreciation for what they do for us all.

Our Programme Action team decided on Pamper Bags for men and women, and started a collection of hand creams, lip balms, snacks, drinks and most importantly – chocolate – from Club, friends and family.  The Club itself made funds available to enable the PAC to top up the donations and buy the recyclable paper bags to present them in.

Each bag was tagged with a Soroptimist of Lichfield & District label containing a message of thanks to the recipient. In total 90 bags were made up and delivered to front line health care and mortuary staff at hospitals: The Queen Elizabeth and Heartlands in Birmingham, Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield and University Hospitals of Derby and Burton in Burton on Trent, plus Rosemary Lodge Care Home in Lichfield.  The bags were very well received and we have received some lovely messages of thanks:

My colleague and I would like to say a big Thank you for the very thoughtful gift bags you kindly sent to us. We are so touched by the kindness of people like you, who take the time to think of others. Bless you All. Let’s hope life will return to normal in the not too distant future. Till then stay safe. Mortician, Good Hope Hospital

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for your lovely goody bags, what a thoughtful thing for you to do. The Bereavement Office is often forgotten as a front line department so it was lovely to receive your very kind gifts this morning. Thank you so so much for thinking of us & giving us such lovely gifts, it really has brightened up our day.  Medical Examiner’s Officer, Good Hope Hospital
I just wanted to drop you a quick email to say a massive Thank You for your gift bags
which we received in our office this morning. It’s such a wonderful thoughtful gift which is
very much appreciated. We will all enjoy a little pampering and the chocolates will
definitely keep us going. It was so lovely to be chosen to receive the gifts as we are
normally the forgotten team. Please pass on my thanks to everyone involved.  Medical Examiner’s Officer, Bereavement Office Good Hope Hospital
I received a very thoughtful & kind gesture today. It’s been a very hard few months here
in the Mortuary at Good Hope Hospital & a tad challenging to say the least. Treats like
this are such a morale boost & very touching. Please pass on my gratitude to all
concerned. Take care of yourselves & each other!  Anatomical Pathology Technician, Heart of England Foundation Trust
Thank you so much for such super lovely pamper packs. I am sure the maternity staff will absolutely love them.  Senior Midwife, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust
