


SI ‘Quiz and Chips’ for the Visually Impaired
Soroptimist International, Lichfield and District, held their annual all-comers Quiz Night at Curborough Community Centre on Saturday 18th January, to raise funds for Lichfield Talking Newspaper.

Mums’ Bags
Through contact with The Buddy Bag Foundation, Club was very aware of the importance of Buddy Bags in helping empower children entering refuges with a sense of safety and security into their lives during a traumatic time. We decided to make similar bags for the mothers. The bags provide them with the essentials which they may not have with them and provide some comfort when all else has been suddenly taken away.

Oranging the World at Christmas time
Lichfield Cathedral holds a Christmas tree festival each year where local businesses and organisations buy and decorate a tree. There is also a competition for the best tree voted on by local people.

Silent March against gender-based violence
The Midland Chase Regional meeting was held in Lichfield and hosted by Lichfield & District Club on Saturday 7th December 2019. A silent march through the city centre was organised as part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence.

Skirting Science 2019
On The Day of the Girl Child 2019 (Friday 11th October), a cohort of Year 8 & 9 girls from five of Staffordshire’s Secondary Schools took part in a STEM careers educational event organised by Soroptimist International of Lichfield and District, in partnership with Entrust and held at South Staffordshire College’s Rodbaston Campus. The event was very generously sponsored by Perkins Engines.
Think On It – SIGBI Conference 2019
Late October saw 8 members of SI Lichfield & District board a train to Bournemouth to the ‘Think on It’ SIGBI conference. Two were conference ‘virgins’ who wondered what it was all going to be about – little did they know how inspiring it would be as well as being full of laughter, high drama and finding out a lot more about each other.

Healthy Relationships and Keeping Safe Online
In autumn 2019 Lichfield & District Club held an awareness raising session run by West Midlands Police on ‘Healthy Relationships & Keeping Safe’ for 20 boys aged 16-18, at Lichfield Football Academy.

Planters for Pathway Project – support for victims of Domestic Abuse
In September, Soroptimist International Lichfield and District Club, utilised the positive power of plants and nature, to show their support for victims of Domestic Abuse by providing large garden planters at the Women’s Refuge in Lichfield.

Have bag, will travel…Tales of A Soroptimist Tote
The phrase, “have bag – will travel” suggests you have the tools to do a job and are willing to travel to get a good job done. This summarises the ethos of the ladies of Soroptimist, Lichfield and District Club this year, as they celebrate the 21 st Charter Anniversary.
